AET Flexible Space has now completed several projects with their new Direct Expansion (DX) under floor cooling range from their market leading Flexible Space Under Floor Air Conditioning (UFAC) System, and it has proved to be an effective solution to challenges frequently arising in the refurbishment marketplace.
Projects making use of this new range of under floor technology include some of London’s historic buildings; including Film House at 142 Wardour Street, the Tripadvisor Headquarters at 7 Soho Square, the Booking Hall at Kings Cross Station, as well as Shore Lines, a formerly disused Victorian Railway Shed in Birkenhead previously converted into offices.
The CAM R410A and R407C DX Coil options can be matched with all the major manufacturer’s 2-pipe and 3-pipe heat pump and heat recovery systems to supply an area or zone of up to 300 m2 with conditioned air. The downflow units are available with AC or EC fan options and can provide variable supply air temperature and variable air volume according to the zone requirement. The supply air is then drawn up from the plenum into the occupied space using a floor recessed Fantile unit.
Commenting on the recent successes, Dave George, National Sales Manager at AET said, “The marketplace is looking for easy, cost effective solutions in refurbishment where water chillers and associated piping are often difficult to install. Often DX solutions can provide the answer. The same applies to new build where costs are paramount, and again DX can save both installation time and costs.”
DX for comfort cooling utilises both traditional TEV technology and the latest inverter drive techniques. AET DX CAM units can interface with virtually all VRV inverters, and DX solutions can provide floor by floor, service permitting, phased refurbishment; demonstrated in the Film House project where each floor has a different specification of the AET Flexible Space System. The most recent phase turned to the DX option as there was no spare capacity on the existing chillers and no room to install an additional chilled water system.
Key benefits of UFAC technology include the solutions offered to height limited projects, or providing additional head room in non-restricted refurbishments, as the system only requires a raised floor height from as low as 200mm. No false ceiling is required, and the AET Fantiles are user friendly and can be adapted to suit comfort demands. From a user perspective, improvement is most noticeable in personal comfort, as a result of the reduction in cold draughts commonly developed by larger cassette units mounted in the ceiling when operating at peak demand.
