PRESS RELEASE 14 May 99
AET on the Great West Road
As part of a £9m refurbishment project, Bletchingley-based AET (Advanced Ergonomic Technologies Ltd) are installing the Hiross FlexibleSpace underfloor air-conditioning system at the JC Decaux building on the Great West Road, near Boston Manor in West London.
The air-conditioning is being fitted over 1,080 sq ms in 6 zones. The JC Decaux property (previously the old Currys distribution centre) is a grade 2 listed building. It was erected in 1936 and the original architect was FE Simpkins. The building is in a similar Art Deco style to the neighbouring Gillette office, and the famous Hoover building on the A40. English Heritage are closely involved with the project and have arranged listed building consent.
The Hiross solution has proved consistently effective within the practical and aesthetic restraints on structural change which are often imposed during refurbishment of listed properties. For example, at the Willis Corroon building in Ipswich, a grade I listed property, English Heritage would not consider the use of suspended ceilings and studies showed that injecting air from side walls was impractical. As a result FlexibleSpace was installed over 1.250 sq ms during a £l.7m refurbishment. The FlexibleSpace air-conditioning system uses the underfloor void as a supply and return air plenum, the air being drawn up into the occupied space via floor-recessed Fantiles with individual remote control for maximum user satisfaction The plenum at JC Decaux is a partial access floor of 400mm. Following successful use of similar techniques at the Eastern Electricity headquarters, AET will be applying an epoxy coating on the concrete raised floor to ensure a high standard of cleanliness. The epoxy coating will minimise concrete dust. |
