PRESS RELEASE: JANUARY 27TH 2000
Price Of Flexible Space Continues To Fall - Since its initial introduction to the market in the late 1980's, the price of the Flexible Space underfloor air conditioning system has been coming down systematically due to a growing volume demand from the market place. With projects exceeding over 1 million sq/m worldwide, and significant development into the Far East, Hiross has been able to industrialise the manufacturing of much of the equipment within the Flexible Space range through the transfer of some of the manufacturing processes to a new factory in Vuma, Czech Republic. This move has come about by the merger of Liebert and Hiross under the Emerson Group enabling an increased resource and facilities base available to the Flexible Space department in Hiross. Flexible Space underfloor air conditioning utilises a floor void as a plenum to route conditioned air. The system has proved to have high performance levels of cooling, higher energy eficiency levels than both Fan Coil and VAV systems, and a high filtration standard providing one of the cleanest, healthiest environments available from an air conditioning system. Glan Blake Thomas, Managing Director of Advanced Ergonomic Technologies Ltd, principal worldwide distributor of the Flexible Space System, highlights that although the initial cost of FSS equipment in the past appeared high when compared to other more traditional systems, the overall cost benefits of the system when analysing total construction cost savings of the building more than compensate for this initial cost difference. However, the price is now considerably lower than VAV displacement and Chilled Beams, and often competes favourably with 4-Pipe Fan Coil systems. Consequently, there is no longer a short-term price penalty to gain a long term cost benefit. In the past, one of the greatest challenges for FSS was to persuade people that maximum flexibility leads to a more intelligent, efficient and cost effective development, but has often required a larger initial outlay. The advantages today are becoming increasingly recognised and AET are building up a prestigious client list that have specified FSS on more than one occasion. The reduced costs of the FSS equipment will hopefully remove some of the resistance to using a different system such as Flexible Space and therefore demonstrate the potential advantages to a wider audience. Additional news from AET as this month sees the first winner of their Ferrari competition, set up to highlight that the Flexible Space System is Italian, and not Swedish as is often presumed.
