Warsaw Atrium Centrum opens September 2001 |
Atrium Centrum in Warsaw, opening in September, is Poland's
first hi-tech international business centre. It is also one of Europe's largest buildings to incorporate the concept of air-conditioning and flexible space.
Developed by Skanska, the complex offers 16,000 sqm of high quality office space with 220 cars parked underground. The 7-storey Atrium Centrum has been designed to maximise efficiency of space planning by eliminating traditional suspended ceilings and housing the air-conditioning system within the raised access floors. This design concept, known as AET Flexible Space, means that occupants have freedom to modify internal layouts to accommodate organisational changes and to optimise indoor climate conditions to suit individual needs. Compared with the conventional way in which air-conditioning is installed in the suspended ceiling, both capital building costs and ongoing facilities-related costs are radically reduced. On multi-storey buildings this can mean a reduction of 15% in height with up to 7% reduction in construction costs. The Agora, another Warsaw building under construction and project managed by Arup to house Poland's largest newspaper group, also incorporates similar design concepts. Clients for both projects say they have used AET Flexible Space to save time, reduce costs and provide organisational flexibility.
