PRESS RELEASE 29th September 1998
WILLIS CORROON OPT FOR HIROSS
As part of a £1.7m refurbishment project, Bletchingley-based Advanced Ergonomic Technologies Ltd. (AET.) have recently supplied a Hiross underfloor air conditioning system at the Willis Corroon building in Ipswich.
The Hiross Flexible Space system uses the underfloor void as a supply and return air plenum. The air is drawn up into the occupied space via floor-recessed Fantiles with individual remote control for maximum user satisfaction. A well known Sir Norman Foster design, the building dates from 1974. It is on four floors and makes innovative use of suspended glass. The site has been grade I listed since 1991 and Sir Norman Foster was called back to design the upgrade.
The refurbishment design by Sir Norman Foster’s team centres around a removable ‘plug’ in the swimming pool area which has been covered with the Hiross units and temperature control modules. Mr. Alan Say, Executive Director at Willis Corroon’s Establishment Services Division comments: "The AET solution was the result of much lateral thinking by all parties. I would have no hesitation in recommending the product. Its flexibility is extremely useful when working around the aesthetic restraints that come with a listed building". Working with Ipswich-based contractor, Featherstone Builders, SGB installed timbers and independent scaffolding to protect the pool area while creating the removable ‘plug’. To highlight the delineation of the pool, AET used innovative techniques to create glass floor panels with carpet on one side. Glan Blake Thomas, AET Managing Director, comments: "In addition to the many ergonomic and aesthetic advantages, the Hiross system can be installed more quickly than traditional systems. It is gaining major endorsements from blue chip clients world-wide". |
