Smokers Welcome?

A more detailed paper on smoke pollution

Outside every public building, outside every office, every restaurant and cafe, outside every hospital and doctor's surgery, standing on the pavement are the nation's smokers.

Apparently treated as pariahs by the rest of society, they leave their work, their desks, their comfortable seats, their restaurant tables, even their beds to stand outside. Rain or shine, windy or calm, they stand. Not talking. Not smiling. Smokers with their favourite weed.

This is not good enough. It is the right of each individual to go to hell in his own choice of handcart. Who are we to cast these people out into the cold.

Anyway, surely it is the smoke you object to, not the smokers. The smokers are nice people, well usually. They are friendly, witty, charming, beautiful, handsome, sexy, hard-working, god-fearing, perhaps all of these. If we could remove the smoke surely you would be happy?

We have the technology. The Hiross Flexible Space air conditioning systems can be designed to carry away cleanly and safely any smoke to which others may object, either expelling it to the outside of the building, or micro-filtering the air before it is re-cycled to minimise the heating bills.

We can create individual climate zones for smoking areas. These climate zones can be warmer or cooler than the rest of the building. And not just zones for non-smokers; let all people work or relax in the conditions that they desire. Shirtsleeves, jacket and waistcoat, T-Shirt or Sweater, or just come in from the rain. Every person has their own comfort index: temperature, humidity, air-movement. It is not right for them to have to live in regulated, standardised, mandatory environments specified by the so-called average denizen, or by the building surveyor's manual.

Lets clean up the smoke, stamp out complaints about the smokers, and concentrate on some of the other problems of life.
